Frequently Asked Questions
How do I become a Bahá’í?
To be a Bahá’í simply means to recognize Bahá’u’lláh as the Messenger of God for today and to follow His laws and teachings. There is no formal process or ritual to becoming a Bahá’í. If you recognize Bahá’u’lláh and follow His laws, then you are a Bahá’í. However, a person would normally inform the local governing council (known as the Local Spiritual Assembly) of one’s belief, so that they can fully participate in the activities of the community, such as voting for the Assembly, giving to the funds of the Faith, receiving email updates, etc.
How can I get involved in activities here in Oakville?

Who leads the Bahá'í
community in Oakville?
There is no clergy or individual leaders in the Bahá'í Faith. All Bahá'í communities are governed by a Bahá'í council called a Local Spiritual Assembly which is democratically elected every year. The nine members that serve on this Assembly hold no special position or title, but rather are there to serve the community and guide its affairs.
Where do Bahá'ís worship?
There are no churches, mosques or synagogues in the Bahá'í Faith. As such, community activities and events usually take place in rented spaces, or people's homes. Some larger communities have a local Bahá'í centre, or even Houses of Worship, but at this time, Oakville has no designated central location.
What is the goal of the Bahá'í Faith?
Bahá’u’lláh has shared a vision of a future humanity that is based on equality, reciprocity, cooperation, consultation, justice and love, which has as its goal the prosperity and well-being of all.
